A little birdie told us.. April 23, 2015 10:40

To get the most out of your candle, there are a few simple things you can do. The more care you take, the more you will get from your candle.

Keeping the wick trimmed to 1/8 of an inch at all times helps control the amount of “fuel” or wax that is present. By keeping the amount of fuel limited, the flame will create ideal complete combustion where carbon particles are absorbed by the flame. This means less soot is formed while the candle is burning.

Tins are perfect for small rooms and spaces. Jars for larger rooms. Quality made candles will completely liquefy, giving you the maximum scent throw.

The first lighting should be for an hour max, or until the liquid touches the sides. This ensures an even burn throughout the lifetime of the candle and prevents any uneven wax sticking to the sides when it dries.

Never burn the candle for longer than 2-3 hours at a time or when the candle is ½ full of wax. This is to deter from heat damage to surfaces.

Never leave a burning candle unattended!

Moments January 30, 2015 09:00

Everybody loves candles, you do, but you might not know it yet.

Candles take any environment you are in and turn it into something special.  Magical even.

At Bird and Birch, we took our inspiration from the greats like Glasshouse and Ecoya. Both started small like us and turned the simple candle into a must have for every season and moment in your life.

Glasshouse says “Whatever the moment, wherever you are, you’ll love it all the more with a fragrance”.

Ecoya states that their purpose is “to create fragrances that carry us to moments that evoke our past and inspire our future.”

Our aim is to provide a unique sensory journey, where an everyday practice turns into an indulgent daily ritual - from the finely blended formulation, to the beautifully crafted finished product.

Developed to take you on a journey to the familiar and unfamiliar, the known and the unknown, whether real or imagined, Bird and Birch products stand for premium handmade quality.

Candles turn a house into a home. The moment you smell a candle burning, you feel the warmth.

These are the reasons why we wanted to start our own journey. We are passionate about what we do and we want to be a part of creating moments for you, our customer. Moments that will be treasured and remembered for years to come.

Bird & Birch is Born January 7, 2015 13:18

What’s in a name?

As this is ours, and my, first ever blog I thought I’d start from the start. Our name.

The name is probably the hardest part of starting a business. Until you have the name, you don’t have an identity or something to connect to.

I think being in a partnership, made name choosing easier. You can bounce ideas back and forth until you are happy. Compromise is the key.

We started off with Birch. His idea. We threw around matching names for a few minutes and nothing stood out. As Birch is a tree I decided to look up native birds to the tree. So many different types with so many daggy names. After dinner, a few vinos and lots of bird names, I finally said ‘why not just bird?’.

Sometimes simple is the best choice.

And there it was, Bird & Birch was born.
